“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3 KJV
God wants to make an exchange with you. God said He will give you beauty for your ashes; He will give you the oil of joy for your mourning; He will give you a garment of praise for your spirit of heaviness.
In this verse, God is not just saying all that He’s going to give you and nothing else. He’s saying He going to make an exchange. God needs you to give Him your ashes, and then you get the beauty. He needs you to give Him your heaviness, and then you get the garment of praise.
God wants you to surrender that which is hurting you. Many people want to hold on to stuff. They want to hold on to pain, anger, or failure, and they want what God has but they don’t want to give up what they’re carrying. God knows that’s not good for us. What God has is supposed to replace what we have.
God gives us the perfect, and we give Him the bad; God gives us the excellent, and we get rid of the ordinary.
God has so many amazing things planned for you, for myself and for all those that believe in Him, but we must come to the altar of God to make an exchange. When they used to bring a sacrifice to the altar, they would lay the animal down, surrendering it, and God took it and left them something new.
God always makes an exchange with us. He takes our sin and gives us peace; He takes our sickness and gives us healing; He takes our lack and gives us abundance! However, there has to be a willingness on our part to say to God, “Here is my broken life. Here are my failed opportunities. Here is my frustration – Lord, I give it to you.” Then God can give you the best that Heaven has to offer.
God Bless You!
